Adobe Photoshop Demo and First Draft of my Board Game

Today has been an eventful one.
Firstly at the bright and early time of 10:00am we started a session which showed us yet another module and break down of the module, I don't want to bore you so I shall leave it at that.

After the module and semester breakdown we then continued to delve into the world of Adobe Photoshop and was given instruction on how to make a carbon copy of the Apple Inc. logo, which I found quite useful as it reminded me of the tools that I had forgotten on my long break between college and university.

Secondly I made my first game in my first week so I can't complain. It was a board game called Brick Break (not very original) the objective was to move by throwing two dice to the end of the 50 square board. The twists however was that when you landed on a number for example 6, that number was no longer in play and was marked with a yellow counter, so the players knew what squares were not in play and if the next player landed on square 6 they would be sent to the start again.

As well as this, spread out randomly on the board were destroy or repair squares which enabled the player who landed on them to choose to either destroy a square on the board (usually one with an opponent on) and send them to the start and mark the new destroyed square with a yellow counter. Or the player can decide the repair option which removes all yellow markers off of the board meaning more freedom to roll and more safety. Also spread randomly on the board was damaged squares which as you probably guessed sent the player that landed on them to the start. As well as all of those things (if it wasn't bad as it is) once you have eventually reached the final sprint of the board you have to roll the exact number away from the finish square otherwise however over you are you have to move them back, for example if a player was on 46 and is 4 away from the finish and they rolled 6 they would 2 back from the finish and land there.

Overall quite a productive day I shall, if I can find the correct connector cable, upload pictures of my first draft of my board game and my apple logo asap, by the way MY idea is patented.
Here at long last is my initial design for my board game and below is my apple logo which i made in Photoshop.

Introductory Task

This is my first ever blog entry and I hope that it is a good one.
Our first task as Computer Game Design students was to pair up and ask each other a set list of questions, write them down and swap pieces of paper, basically we get our own answers back and would have saved a lot more resources if we were told answer these questions, but then we don't get the opportunity to mingle with our fellow students so was a good idea, we also have the difficult task of figuring out the scratches given back to us and interpret them into words, luckily we gave them the answers so all is good.

Here are my results:
1. The title of the fictional book which I last read was Skulduggery Pleasant, quite good reading when you can't sleep on a plane and the person behind you is kicking you in the back all night.
2. The last non- fiction book that I read was Richard Hammond's autobiography detailing the events prior and after his crash.
3. The last live performance that I saw was Pendulum at Wembley Stadium for my eighteenth birthday present.
4. The last film that I saw on DVD was Bad Boys 2, as me and my friend decided to watch both one and two last night and we watched them in order, hence Bad Boys 2 being the most recent.
5. The next question was how often I read a Newspaper, and what one? In Short I don't read Newspapers only in passing.
6. This question was asking about which gallery/exhibition/museum etc I visited last, I visited Eurogamer exposition with my class during fresher’s week, as did most of my class.
7. This question was more up my street compared to Newspapers, but I suppose this is showing the level of the students intake of news compared to time playing computer games and if there is a correspondence somewhere? I don't know what correspondence but the question was how many hours a week do you spend playing computer games? My rough answer was about 20 - 25 hours a week.
8. Again this question I believe is another comparison of the student and how the media is influencing the users and how the computerized gaming and older methods of gaming are competing against one another, the question was how many hours a week do you spend playing games other than video games? Roughly I said 2 hours.

I hope this has been a successful first blog and you enjoy reading it.
